Cameron Nelson Memorial Run

What better way to honor Cameron, but with a ride. He was among other things a biker and the backbone of this event. Cam, along with Wild Bill and Dr. Fil, created an event to honor and help our returning wounded heroes and their families. Detouring from our usual October date we decided on June and Father's Day weekend, bringing together family and friends to enjoy a day of MUSIC and BBQ. Then with the sudden death of Cam, we realized while looking at the event flyer that it will coincidentally become the first anniversary of Cam's death.
As you view pictures of the past events you'll see the passion he had for Casa Colina and the Thunder in the House / Ride for Heroes event. We hope to see you there to celebrate his cause. |
Event History / About Us
The thought, "Welcome home veterans", is on all of our minds.
We owe tremendous honor and respect to the men and women who volunteer for military service to protect our security and liberty. This honor and this respect are not just for a day of celebration when a unit comes home or for a year when their service is still fresh in our minds, but for a lifetime. Particularly when members of the Armed Services are wounded in the line of duty, when their capacity to carry on with the rest of their lives is impaired, we have an obligation to restore the dignity of each of these individuals by doing everything we can to make their lives as independent and fulfilling as possible.
Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation, with the long-term support of people in this community, has dedicated itself for more than 70 years to medical recovery and rehabilitation of people with many types of disabling conditions - polio, autism, brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, sports injuries, amputation, and many more. We saw that we had a special mission in relation to the military personnel returning from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan with serious brain injuries and other catastrophic injuries, because we had already developed special expertise in this area. Therefore we welcomed many of these brave young people for care at Casa Colina without compromise, whether or not every part of the rehabilitation would be paid for.
On Saturday, June 19, 2010, the Friends of Casa (F.O.C.) committee in partnership with Casa Colina will host Thunder in the House, Ride for Heroes 2010, supporting physical rehabilitation services for our nation's heroes. We invite you to join us and help honor these heroes at this great event. Your involvement as a sponsor would help focus the bright spotlight on the issue of raising funds in the private sector to care for these fallen heroes in a way that does justice to their commitment to us. Proceeds from Thunder in the House will be used to replenish Casa Colina's uncompensated care fund.
If you have any questions, or would like more information please contact Fred Berger at 909/576-8294 or the Casa Colina Foundation at 909/596-7733, ext. 2223. With your support, Casa Colina will be able to continue its long tradition of providing charitable care to individuals who lack the resources to pay.
